Their iconography differed, Florence was presenting herself as alternative and was very original. She did this by her costumes and makeup, even the set up of the video was very quirky. Whereas Rihanna used the iconography that most pop artists too, this was presented through a club scene which we see alot in R&B and Pop music. This tied in with her music very well, as Don't Stop The Music is a club song.
The Vine's also fitted the iconography of a traditional indie band, as alot of it was performance based which we see quite a lot with these sort of bands.
Florence and The Machine -Dog Days are Over
There was definatley a relationship between music and visuals within the video. Florence clapped along with the beat. When cymbals featured in the music, the audience actually saw them being crashed together. Also the higher the tempo began the faster Florence and the other people within the video began to dance. Florence also mimed in time with the music. When the music came to a climax, an explosion happened within the video which reflected this. There were also many close up's of her included.
Rihanna - Don't Stop the Music
A relationship between music and visuals also featured within the video. This was done with the use of editing, as well as miming. The screen blacked out in time with the rhythm, which was a very original way to do it. The iconography mirrored everything that would be expected within a R&B video, with drinking, dancing and the club scene.
There were also many close up's of her within the video, which the record company may have pressed for. Rihanna, like Florence also clapped with the beat of the music. Voyeurism was also featured within the video, as she looks into a mirror.
The Vines - Winning Days
The iconography fits well with an Indie band, as it is mostly performance based. The stop motion method is also something that can be seen to feature within other band's videos, such as the White Stripes. There are many close ups of the band members and lipsynching also creates a relationship between both the music and the visuals.
