Stripped was an album Christina Aguilera released in 2002. The cover is simple but very effective in putting across her image at the time. It oozes sex appeal, which was the image she was trying to create at the time. This is done effectively due to the simple layout which means the viewers eyes are automatically drawn to her. Her outfit, or lack of it, is very raunchy and her she is giving the camera a lustful look. This appeals to men as well as her loyal female fans. The name of the album confirms the image she is trying to give. The image reflects the content of her songs, one of which is actually called Stripped. The black and white theme is eyecatching and really helps to display the important information well.
Aguilera's next album in 2007, was named Back to Basics. Which mirrored the music perfectly, as the album consisted of soul, jazz and blues music. It was instantly clear that the artist was attempting to shed the old image she created and was now using a more sophisticated style. A lot of the music was of a more traditional style, this is mirrored by the title as well as the imagery. Here she has been styled to look like iconic women of the 1960's. She particularly mirrors Marilyn Monroe, both in the image and within the music. The blonde hair and red lips give her a very similar look to these women, and that is what she was trying to achieve. The simple white duvet, indicates that this is indeed back to basics. And the font is very simple, and red which integrates with her red lipstick.
